To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
I am not sure in all these years how many times I have read this scripture but a few years ago it appeared to me in a new light. I saw it as  very strategic plan from Jesus to man in much the same way as the ten commandments or the beatitudes in the New Testament.
Paul was a man for a particular season and mission concerning the gentiles and the Church at large. Reading Paul’s testimony in Acts chapter 9:1-9 and Acts 26:13-18 we see that Paul was considered a treacherous man that hated Christians and was in pursuit of that calling when he suddenly has an encounter with Jesus.
Jesus confronts and calls him simultaneously, by making Paul aware who he was dealing with and informing him of his new duties.

Acts 26
13 At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.
14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;
17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,
18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
I have appeared to thee for this purpose;
I love this that the appearing was for a purpose and that purpose was to make Paul into something that he didn’t understand .That something was actually two something’s a minister and a witness ,both of which he could not do on his own. In Paul’s case his eyes were blinded so he could see and our eyes are opened so we become blind to the world.
